hebrew

i've been reading through the Old Testament (and enjoying it more than I ever have before). but as i read i find that there are a few names - of people and places both - that for some reason just stick in my head. i find myself saying them over and over again inside as i drive around the ramp at work (when i do most of this reading). some of them are just fascinating because they're so cumbersome - others are quite the opposite. tonight i made a little list. thought i'd share.

Dan's list of favorite stickyish Old Testament names:

Kirjath-jearim
Kadesh-barnea
Ahithophel
Azmaveth
Athaliah
Ahinoam the Jezreelitess
Chimham
Aholibamah
En-gedi
En-rogel

the stickiest are kirjath-jearim, azmaveth, and ahinoam the jezreelitess.

(but especially ahinoam the jezreelitess.)

I'm rather fond of Aholibamah. Sounds like something to be chanted by twirling muppets with feathers in their snouts as Benjamina Gun rides in on her anteater.

And I have always just *loved* saying Kadesh-barnea. Ever since an Old Test. History course in college. Kadesh-barnea. Kadesh-barnea. Kadesh-barnea. See?

Kirjath-jearim is one of my favorites. Another good name to add to the list is Evilmerodach, the name of a wicked king. Huz and Buz are good too.
