A Favorite Movie

Hello all...

I've finally done it. I have created a blog. Which I don't suppose I actually have to point out if you're reading this. Time will tell how often I actually post, but for now it is enough that it exists.

This would, then, be my first post. That means that it ought to have a sense of significance - uniquity, if you will. Something to "set the tone." Unfortunately, I don't feel like sweating over that. So I'm just going to write about what I would write about if I were writing about whatever I were going to write about if I had been writing about things all along. You can figure me out as we go along together hand in hand - walking, perhaps sometimes skipping, maybe even leapfrogging or who knows playing hopscotch, or running backwards and tripping over things but not skinning our knees because we're running backwards so I guess skinning the backs of our knees - through this epic journey called blog.

So I guess now I've sort of written that first post of uniquity after all. But what this is
really supposed to be about is....

The Black Stallion. If you have not seen this movie, I have three words for you - to be said in this order - see this movie. I will warn you that it is very slow. That, however, is its essential beauty. And that is the one word - sadly diluted though it has become - that best describes this piece of film. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. It's more like a Georgia O'Keefe painting than a modern American film. Some evening when you find yourself alone and feeling peaceful - see this movie. Don't be in a hurry. Turn off the lights, turn up the sound, and immerse yourself in its glorious simplicity.

The end.

PS - sometimes it even makes me cry.

Thank you, thank you! I saw that movie when it was in theatres (was I in college?). I wave the video at my family at irregular intervals, but have never been able to persuade them to watch it.

Hopefully, you will prove more persuasive than I have.

Uniquity is preferable to iniquity, is it not?

Uniquity... my inspiration for use of this wonderful word I acknowledge as my good friend and compatriot (whatever that means) becca box at www.beccabox.blogspot.com if you don't know her, too bad. You are a poorly privileged person.

Bo-Dan,
Not your first commenter, but I can jolly well say I have loved/liked you *longer* than anyone else who has posted on this blog to date. (Throwing my age around. You will see more of this from now on.)

Now. As per the movie. *Indeed*, my dear boy, it is an indisputable piece of cinematic art. Not to be watched when one is in the mood for Muppets, or Monsters Inc, or something testosterone-charged like Bourne Identity/Supremacy. But when a beautiful, meaningful movie is in order, it is oh so sweet. (Love Mickey Rooney in this film.)

No one has mentioned the soundtrack! It is a perfect marriage of music and film. And I have tried in vain for these long years to find it for purchase. Have you ever?

Glad you're blogging, neph. We are *almost* ready to pull the plug on ours. A couple of family members are still puzzling over names.
